Saint Saviour // Manchester (11/11/2012)
Having released her long awaited solo debut album Union earlier this year, Saint Saviour, the powerhouse voice behind Groove Armada and just Becky Jones to her loved ones played an intimate set at Manchester’s fast rising Trof. (Continue…)
Possessing an army of dedicated followers through years of slowly moulding what is a solid back catalogue of high eccentric pop hooks and heart wrenching ballads, the lady herself stepped into the light for an appreciative crowd. Hearing a studio recording of such a magnificent voice is one thing but to see Jones erupt live is far more rewarding.
Supported by a backdrop of cello and guitar, early favourites included recent single Tightrope, channeling her inner Kate Bush. Each song was performed with high energy and an overwhelming spirit concluding that Jones enjoys the stage.
Personal favourite Reasons showed how a song can transcend perfectly infront of a live audience, stopping the crowd from their whispering chatter. Not only did Saint Saviour show her experience and passion but demonstrated her longevity in the game. Backed by critics and loyal fans, Becky Jones may have made a few more friends after tonight.

Kate Boy | In Your Eyes
After premiering the incredible Northern Lights a few weeks back Kate Boy has now posted the pretty incredible b-side In Your Eyes. Even more incredible the swedish group are now signed to IAMSOUND and will release the songs on January 22nd. More incredible than that is how crazy people love this track. Incredible.

Blog Sound 2013
Something rather exciting has been happening in the last few weeks. 49 of the best UK music bloggers have got together to create a longlist of 15 artists who will be making a huge impact next year. The list detracts nothing away from the annual BBC sound of 2013 though what it does do is serve as an honest viewpoint from the writers who live their lives searching for new music. (Continue…)
Last year’s list pointed out this year’s Mercury Prize winning, Alt-J though interestingly enough the BBC had left them completely off their list. Just over 170 acts received at least one vote.  The winning act received votes from around 25% of all bloggers. The list below is a representation from a wide spectrum including major label, independent label and even unsigned artists, giving recognition to some who do not major PR support.
Created by Robin Seamer (Breaking More Waves) & Andy Von Pip (The Von Pip Express).
“Each blog was allowed to vote for five acts and the diversity of the nominations was staggering.  Based on the evidence of the spread of votes anyone that says that music bloggers are sheep and are all writing about the same artists has it wrong.  However, the results of the poll show that certain artists do have a lot of support and love from a significant portion of UK bloggers and those artists make up the Blog Sound of 2013 list,” says Robin.
The short-list and official winner will be announced January 3rd 2013
So without dragging this post out even longer here is the longlist for this years Blog Sound 2013, there are a few surprises on there, a few obvious choices that so obvious I didn’t think they would place and a few I even voted for, which of course is always a nice feeling, so enjoy:

Paloma Faith | Just Be

Here is Paloma’s new vid for Just Be. The song that plays every time you turn the TV on ITV and that shitty drama showcase is on for Autumn. But yeah that doesn’t take anything away from the song which is pretty good, but yeah.

BenZel | If You Love Me (feat. Jessie Ware)

Although the Jessie Ware lost out (robbed) to Alt-J at the recent Mercury awards she’s not letting it hinder her work. New track sees her team with duo BenZel who met, bonded and then decided to share their appreciation of chilled 90’s RnB. The threesome try Brownstone’s hit If You Love Me on and to very pleasing results.

Sticking to his trademark build up of deep atmosphere and adding a nice vocal layer, he just never disappoints.
